Counter Cosby

Website
Jamming strong for more than a decade, Counter Cosby is a power-trio from Ann Arbor, MI. The members consist of Langel on bass, O'Neill on drums, and AROtotheN on guitar. Back in 1996, these high school sweethearts found each other and managed to not get bored whilst on an adventure of sonic musical experience ...or something like that.

The Psycho Kid

Website
There are venues in Chicago where the drop ceiling may fall on your head. The crowds are small, the pay low, but if the energy is right, then nothing else matters. We’ve played many of these places, and recently we’ve started to tour. Our mission has never changed—play music, make a statement, be ourselves. A revolution stirs at rock shows, small and large, and we’re happy to be a part of the movement. We hope to facilitate the dialogue of counter-cultures: what is wrong and what are we going to do about it? But this isn’t just a forum; we also hope to facilitate the grinding of hips and shaking of asses. Life gets dark sometimes, and music can be therapy and sunlight. What’s the point of rebellion if the end-goal is not happiness? Do we win the war by destroying ourselves? Let them make you miserable, and they’ve won—they own you. Or challenge conservatism and have fun; vent your anger and dance with your friends. Rise above—then you’ve got a party.

Chronicles

Website
Chronicles is comprised of four seasoned musicians who have united - pooled their talents and resources - to bring long time RUSH fans their favorite music the way it was intended to be delivered. They start at the beginning of it all and bring you forward delivering all of your favorite songs from yesteryear. Their current chapter - if you will - is 1974-1982. They fancy themselves as of keepers of the old and dig deep into the vault to bring you such songs as By-Tor and the Snow Dog, Here Again, Before and After, Making Memories, Lakeside Park, In The End, Broon's Bane (yes with a true classical) and numerous other songs that quite frankly they believe even RUSH themselves forgot how to play and of course performed as only they can. All I can say is bring a lunch: when they get started they just won't stop for three straight hours.

The Guitars of Spain

Website
The ensemble makes their debut at Reggie's with a performance which will feature flamenco music and live dance along with original material which fuses flamenco with elements of blues, jazz, and rock. The Guitars of Spain ensemble formed in 1999, when guitarist, Carlo Basile was researching material for his Master's Degree Lecture/Recital titled "Flamenco Music and Spain's Nationalist Composers." Along with other guitarists and dancers who were studying flamenco music from Spain, Carlo put together a series of "Flamenco Night" performances (at Martyr's and then, later, at the Hothouse in Chicago) that gave everyone a chance to "practice their chops." The "Flamenco Night" series was quite successful and lasted for a few years. It also led to collaborations with many fine musicians and dancers from the Chicago music scene.

Art Edwards & His Defunct Band

Website
A decade since the break-up of his seminal Arizona band, Art Edwards--co-founder, co-songwriter and bass player of the Refreshments, the band that sold combined in excess of 400,000 albums for Mercury Records in the 1990s; wrote and recorded the top fifteen alternative radio hit "Banditos" (1996); and wrote and recorded the theme song for the Fox television series *King of the Hill*--emerges with his first ever solo album, *Songs from Memory*. Edwards's musical collaboration with high school classmate Bret Hartley (Sugarland, Billy Pilgrim, Clay Cook) has resulted in *Songs from Memory*, which includes the single "Riverboat Captain" and nine other songs featuring Edwards's infectious pop melodies and Hartley's at times searing, at other times textured and elegant, guitar playing. Listen to tracks from *Songs from Memory* at http://www.myspace.com/artedwardsaudio. "A lively 10-song CD of power-pop gems that will leave more than a few old Refreshments fans giddy." Chris Hansen Orf, Get Out Magazine To support *Songs from Memory*, Edwards has toured extensively in 2008, participating in events in Phoenix, Denver, Atlanta, Nashville, St. Louis, Dallas, Oklahoma City, and many times in his hometown of Chicago, IL.

I'm a hairsprayed, honky tonkin', wanna-be hot rod hearse drivin' sick girl raised outside of Chicago. Singing for over twelve years with standards, classical, opera, jazz, and musical theater I have been blessed to finally record some music that is my true passion; a mix between rockabilly, hillbilly bluegrass, jazz, psychobilly, punk, old country, and standards. Grey Skies

Website
A perfect complement to their melancholy namesake, the Grey Skies' complex and unpredictable debut album pushes hard rock, pop and experimental rock in new directions. From the moody, driving lead track, "Bend In The Wire," to the layered psychedelic swirl in "More Orange Than Tan," the Grey Skies have crafted a nuanced, mysterious album that will appeal to indie and hard rock fans alike. Never content to stay in one genre, songwriter Bryan Knisley (Push on Junior, Moon Maan) takes rock guitar out of its native habitat and into previously unknown places. Mark Pakulski (Signal & Report, Moon Maan) has a similarly adventurous rock pedigree, including stints in punk, avant-garde goth, retro pop and classic rock bands. Multi-instrumentalist/avocado player Stephanie Huss (Reba Fritz Band) is the band's secret weapon, while Jamie Bollman's (Luke's Angels) unexpected, off-kilter fills and no-BS approach give the band its unique driving power.

Demilos

Website
Demilos are a group of 5 songwriter/multi-instrumentalists including a pair of twin brothers (Brian and Joe Daley) who draw heavily from the experimental sounds of early Brit pop a la Eno/The Kinks/Bowie as well as American avant-garde pop maestros like Brian Wilson or The Flaming Lips and blend it with enough roots rock twang to make something that is their own. Demilos drew most of their material on Thursday from their new self released LP “Peaking Through The High Hats” which is a fantastic collection of psychedelic retro jams and lyrically driven countrified rock that quickly sneaks into your brain and demands repeat listens.

Parks and Gardens
Parks and Gardens

Website
Parks and Gardens may be a new band, but the members have been around for quite some time. Andrew Duncan was a founding member of Chicago treadmill heroes OK Go. Nathan Tucker and Joshua Davison comprised the underground electronic duo String Theory. Their hybridized pop combines equal parts hook-happy guitar rock and cerebral IDM, thick with vocal harmony and synthesized counterpoint melody. It's smart and clever, but still unafraid to let loose with a bombastic guitar solo between verses. The result of this peanut-butter-in-my-chocolate fusion of pop and electronica is delightfully unexpected -- splitting the difference perfectly between the robotic precision of sequenced computer music and the warmth and familiarity of vocal-driven pop. Their forthcoming debut, Avec Cloture, was recorded and produced by the band and showcases their balance of intelligent songwriting, infectious melody and baroque, futuristic production.

Lozen
Lozen

Website
LOZEN are a two-women band named after an Apache warrior woman, whose spirit they attempt to channel through thunderous chug, schizoid dynamics and banshee (definitely not Siouxsie) wails. Certainly a promising premise for some righteous fury. Other, less dead and red spirits channeled here include MELVINS, UNWOUND, EARTH and fellow two-human nosie-rockers GODHEADSILO. The songs are multi-sectional cacophonies that parry and attack like a vagina with fangs or HEART with balls, often twisting and turning into the seven or eight-minute mark. While at times skirting with disjointedness, the quiet-loud menace of tracks like "Unspeakable Truths" hit like a female TOOL--a metal strap-on, if you will, fucking you in the name of stolen hunting grounds. It may fit strangely at first, but halfway through you'll start to enjoy it.

Frink

Website
Frink was formed in a dank basement in Urbana in the fall of 2005 consisting of best friends Joe Bernier(lead guitar, vox) and Stefan Lindgren(drums). They had been playing Ozma's Rock and Roll Part 3 straight down for a good 2 years and decided to go original with it. They tossed around some chords and then recruited the help of their roommate Kevin Schmitt to play bass. When another musician by the name of Steve Ward moved in that spring, he also moved in on bass and Kevin (Schmittie, to most) moved to rhythm guitar. To make a long story short here, a lot of beer was frinked, songs were written, Stefan moved to Sweden for a while, and the never-ending search for a moog player finally ended a month ago when fellow musician and friend Kate Drown said that she could more than put up with these 4 heavy-frinking, non-stop quoting nerds. All the pieces are now in place, and Frink's patented wall of sound is ready to take over Chicago and the rest of the world.

Nuke Mutes

Website
The Nuke Mutes began in 2005 as Altered Genes, brain child of the singer George. He and acquired Ryan Horten Heat in high school P.E. while he was pretending he couldn’t swim to avoid swimming in the deep end with a bunch of hair ape-men. George then sought a drummer, unable to find one, he taught his friend from the skate park, Miles “Lost Boy” Bourk. They fucked around for a year playing US hardcore inspired music, gained a very small following, went through a few bassists. Altered Genes became known for their tenancy to throw fake, home made blood at shows, and their drunk front man. They began to play a more horror punk and psychobilly inspired set after about a year and a half. After Bassist Emma Rowe left, George decided that he would step in and the band would make the switch to a stand-up bass and play psychobilly under the name Nuke Mutes. Now that Ryan Horten Heat could showcase his guitar skills and George forbid the use of powerchords, the band had found their true calling. Soon after Miles left the band leaving George and Ryan without a drummer. luckily, in an anartic safari, ryan and george encountered the allusive red yettie who took up banging the drums for them. and that would bring us up to date.

Blood of The Tyrant

Website
Blood of the Tyrant is a metal quartet from Chicago that strikes a perfect balance between earth-shaking heaviness and elegant technical finesse. Drawing upon a wide array of influences that includes Meshuggah, Black Sabbath, Neurosis and Goblin, Blood of the Tyrant seamlessly combines the drama and melodic intuition of traditional heavy metal with the crushing brutality of the vibrant modern metal scene. Intricate guitar harmonies sit comfortably alongside plodding, doom-laden riffage and chaotic bursts of hardcore-inspired fury, and songs are carefully arranged to have a severe and lasting emotional impact. A maelstrom of progressive and metallic textures, Blood of the Tyrant is not to be missed. For fans of Mastodon, Baroness, Isis, High on Fire, Zombi, Today is the Day and Yakuza.

radioradio

Website
In the spirit of rock rebellion, RadioRadio takes its name from Elvis Costello's sardonic lyrics about the bias of corporate media. This band from Tulsa, OK remains committed to making modern rock music with unusual twists and turns worthy of such a moniker. Their debut album ‘Watch ‘Em All Come Runnin’ has garnered critical acclaim and found a wide ranging audience. Highlights from the disc include ‘Marathon’ which was in regular rotation for nearly six months at Z104.5 The Edge. June 2008 saw the release of the tightly knit EP ‘Alarm 1 Alarm 2’ in tandem with a remix of the single ‘BBC’ by world renowned mix-master Mark Needham (The Killers, Pete Yorn). With influences taken from their formative years, RadioRadio has fused today's rock with heroes from their past. Common ground for the band includes acts like The Call, Joy Division, My Bloody Valentine, STP, Nine Inch Nails, Talk Talk, and U2. The result is a band that is relevant yet unique alongside current acts like The Killers and Snow Patrol.

SP drops indie hip-hop for a new generation. "Cause back in the dayz, we were all Star People…”

Triologic

Website
Treologic's songs are unfailingly positive, focusing on friendship, love and good times. It is, says Lance Loiselle, a throwback to hip-hop's earliest days, when MCs were more concerned with getting the party started than earning street cred. "We don't write political songs," continues Loiselle. The five-piece group, sparked by the energetic vocals of MC Billa Camp, has been laying down a jazz-influenced, upbeat groove since releasing its 2003 debut, "What's the Question." It's a path the band plans on continuing when its latest, "Green Room Memoirs," surfaces sometime this summer.

The band is more intricate, textural, funky, and vocal savvy, and mixes more aggression with mellow melodics. Landscapes, and the people who inhabit them. Sublime and desolate songs which you desperately need to hear. This is Voice box.
