GIRL DETECTIVE Website
Girl Detective is a Chicago duo consisting of Rani Woolpert and Jason Oppman. The two met in May 2010 when Woolpert, a visual artist and singer, was looking for a guitarist for another band and found Oppman on Craigslist. Oppman, a composer and songwriter since the mid-‘90s, had been seeking a collaborator who shared his musical influences—‘80s bands The Cure, Depeche Mode, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Cocteau Twins, The Smiths, Joy Division, and others—to add to the numerous songs he had written. After hearing his music, Woolpert realized his songs had the sound she was looking for as a singer, and suggested they work together on a new project. The collaboration started with sending tracks back and forth—Oppman providing the music and Woolpert writing lyrics and recording improvised vocals on first listen. The duo began meeting weekly in Oppman's home studio in late summer 2011 to build the live sound, while also continuing to write collaboratively in the original manner.

They have played over thirty-five successful shows in Peoria, Bloomington, and Carbondale. There fan base expands through the entire state of Illinois with their home base being Peoria. Pat McCurdy is a cabaret singer/songwriter from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He regularly tours the upper midwestern part of the United States with regular stops in Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, Green Bay, and Minneapolis. His shows usually consist of just him and his guitar and include improvised interaction with the audience. While the majority of his audience is made up of a college-age crowd, McCurdy appeals to a large number of people of all ages. Performing well over 300 shows a year, his large catalog of original songs (over 600 and growing) covers a variety of topics such as lost loves, politics, family vacations, and how the world can't live without Sex & Beer.

The signs in Chris Zane’s studio couldn’t have been any clearer: “Don’t Overthink It” and one simple word—“BOLD.” Or as Asobi Seksu guitarist/singer James Hanna puts it, “This time, our agenda was to not have one at all; to be mellow about the entire process instead of obsessing over everything.” Maybe mellow isn’t the right word, unless he’s comparing the band’s fourth proper full-length (Fluorescence) to a coiled-up cobra or unconscious crocodile— temperamental types that are one false move away from striking. After all, “Coming Up” sets the scene by plowing into beehive-like synth lines and warp speed washes of dream-pop that leave you wondering just what the hell is going on. Things don’t let up on “Trails” either, as singer/keyboardist Yuki Chikudate sets her immaculate melodies against a barrage of battery-powered chords. Catchy and chaotic to the core, the sky-scraping song pays homage to the pitch-perfect songwriting of the ‘60s by chartering a yellow submarine to the moon. And when the Brooklyn-based quartet (rounded out by bassist Billy Pavone and drummer Larry Gorman) finally hits the ground, their color-saturated soundscapes don’t get dull or cold. They get even brighter, asFluorescence’s many shades shift with each passing song. That includes everything from the expansive/erratic—and yet, oh-so- poppy—prog movements of “Leave the Drummer Out There” to the weightless balladry of “Ocean,” a track that channels its title with swollen synths and beats that bob and weave through the murkiest waters around. “James likes to get a lot more abstract with the music,” says Chikudate, “So Chris (Asobi Seksu’s longtime producer) will often try and reign him in.” “I like to see how far we can take a song before pulling back a bit,” explains Hanna. “Like I’ll say that 100 vocal tracks would sound great in a spot where we only need 40.” And since Asobi Seksu have spent the past decade refining their bombastic but beautiful blend of hailstorm hooks and fog-shrouded 4AD-isms (including last year’s special acoustic album, Rewolf), they knew exactly what to do with all of that restlessness: embrace it.

Spin.com "Sybris isn't one of those bands with more guitar pedals than bright ideas. Having a sound is easy; Sybris has songs too, and catchy, well-crafted ones at that. The low-key "Blame it on Baseball" is a bloody valentine to early-'90s alternative rock, and "Breath Like You're Dancing" sticks around just long enough to get stuck in your head before it explodes into cacophony. The echo isn't there to obscure any compositional deficiencies, just to facilitate the spacey vibe. Fox The Cat is an indie rock band that consists of five close friends, all residing in Chicago, IL. The band was formed in October of 2011. Over the span of the last few months they have been writing and recording their first three songs. Everything the band creates comes from a complete collaboration between their members. As of right now, this is just the beginning for Fox The Cat. Paul has hopped on board as their drummer joining Casey on vocals, Abe on lead guitar, Jimmy on rhythm guitar, and Luke on bass. They are working hard to get more of their catchy tunes out so stay tuned and they're sure you'll like what you hear.

His love for music started at an early age as he recorded songs in his bedroom singing and using Frisbees as percussion.

Following their musical heart, The J. Davis Trio continues to thrive. They thrive not only because of their connection to real hip hop and jazz music, but also because of their ability to grow and change. Starting as trio, they now have as many as 8-10 people on stage, utilizing many types of instrumentation and styles. Their independence has allowed them to explore and incorporate from unexpected sources, resulting in a sound uniquely their own. Began as an actual trio with Julio Davis/vocals, Dave Smith/bass & Tone Aimone/drums, they realized that in order to play live, they needed another element. Paula Pergl came and provided flute for awhile. When she left, she was soon replaced by long time member, mulit-instrumentalist, Dave Winer. The J.Davis Trio arrived on the Chicago scene with their debut eponymous album, The J.Davis Trio, in 1999 where they created national buzz with a North American tour that included famous Chicago venues like The Metro, The House of Blues, the historic Green Mill Jazz club, and many colleges in the midwest. Tours to the east coast, the CMJ Music Fest in New York, down to the SXSW Music Fest in Austin, TX., to L.A. soon followed

Organ Yank is composed of Alex Cohen (guitar), Danny Kamins (saxophones), and Andrew Lawrence (keys). The group formed at Oberlin College in 2007. Its members having made ends meet in Hollywood via all manner of artistic endeavors, the entertainment value of their live show pairs perfectly with their tight musicianship. Formed in summer 2008 with original cast Jason and Jeremy on strings, Labrat on da drums. and Betsy on the trumpet. Played a couple shows at the weiser space, including the Post - Apocolypticrust show, and many a nighttime ragaish jams at the humble Scrap Irony House and and atop the epic mount happy , and out in the streets busking on firey nights anticlimactic afternoons, and crazy mornings.We also enjoy taking to the streets with the buckets, bones and flags and jamming against the state. We have many inspirations musically including everything, cockroaches, human wastefullness, oppression, trying new things, hitchiking and going travelling, and Desmon Decker. Project on hiatus until Labrat learned the Saxophone, and went through a couple drumms till ol boy Malcom came round randomly and been doign the drums ever since. THen we recorded a DIY 8 song EPIC disc, Askacalyptic Freeganza. After Malcolm headed west, the cast was pretty much a revolving door, picking up drummer Aaron, on drums, betsy and andrew (briefly) on trombone, and a plethora of Conga players, but when Jason and Labrat decided to hit the road, they decided to put the surgeons to sleep... for now! Now We're back and better than ever!!! In 2008, Sawbuck began as the vehicle for Chicago singer/songwriter Kevin Sullivan to document some of the many song ideas which he had backlogged over time. Very quickly, the band began to build momentum and for two years Sawbuck played many of the familiar Chicago Rock Clubs (Martyrs, Double Door, Bottom Lounge, FitzGerald's, etc.)
With musical influences ranging from Rock and Country, to Punk and Roots Music, the end product is a hybrid of many styles. Roots Rock Country Folk Punk anyone?
After playing the Chicago Country Music Festival (Millennium Park), in August of 2010, three of the founding members of Sawbuck left to from the Soul band, the Congregation.
Approximately one year later, Sawbuck is getting ready to re-emerge with a fresh coat of paint, new songs, new members, and a slightly different, more electric, sound.

After touring for two years with Le Loup, guitarist May Tabol returned home to launch a new project with a close group of friends converging in the DC arts scene. Now playing as a four-piece, Pree combines a wide variety of folk instrumentation with electric and digital elements to create a unique sound brimming with layered melodies and contagious energy.
Pree's full length Folly was released this past October on Paper Garden Records, and this spring they will be hitting the road for SXSW as well as a tour throughout the states and Europe.

While the majority of his audience is made up of a college-age crowd, McCurdy appeals to a large number of people of all ages. Relentlessly touring the mid-west and beyond, the rock band Clovis Mann from Madison, WI is poised for a big year in 2012, as they continue to promote their third studio release, Metamorphic.
Metamorphic has received great reviews and won the award for ‘Blues Album of the Year’ at the Madison Area Music Awards show in June of 2011. The band has toured heavily in 2011, with two tours in Colorado and Wyoming on top of their regular touring schedule around the Midwest. “The Mann” already has a return trip to Colorado planned for March of 2012 with stops in Iowa and Nebraska on the way out.

Let the songs write you!Musical Charis formed in the summer of 2008 as a male/female 4 piece with the intentions of creating an encouraging, light-hearted atmosphere for songwriting and creativity. "Charis" is the Greek word for gift, so the name literally translates to "Musical Gifts" Since then, the group has grown into a cabaret of multi-instrumental musicians who constantly tour, write and record new material. The band even made time to open "Musical Charis Music School" for low-income families in Sacramento. Members of the band teach private piano, guitar, and voice lessons to over 50 youngsters in the area.
"People People" (JMB Records) the 10 song full length album released on July 23rd, 2010 was co-engineered by John Baccigaluppi (Editor of Tape OP Magazine) "Forward" may be the highlight of the ten track record, a catchy indie rock number that is in a class of its own on this album. Stage Door Canteen is a legendary big band out of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, the southernmost tip of Cape Cod. Dedicated to "The Big Band Sound," the Stage Door presents a musical tour-de-force spanning classic swing tunes, repertory big band music, and horn-fueled, dance-driven rhythm and blues.
In celebration of their twentieth anniversary, the band is traveling to Chicago on the iconic Lake Shore Limited rail line, in homage to the great big bands who came before. In 2007, celebrating their fifteenth anniversary, they toured Ireland, playing gigs in Dublin and at several beautiful rural theaters, as well.
An institution on their native Cape Cod, Stage Door Canteen has headlined every major music festival in that area and have opened for the Boston POPS. They bring the unbridled energy and swinging style of perfect summer party on the beaches of Hyannisport with them everywhere they go.

M13 is a Chicago-based, 13-piece ensemble, whose original compositions and arrangements by saxophonist/bandleader Aaron McEvers defy common convention and classification. Jazz may be at its core, but this is no swing band. The amalgamation of styles within their sound is varied and unapologetic. Original compositions are somewhat programmatic, evoking a sense of storytelling through melody-driven arcs, fresh orchestration and improvisation. This recipe yields a surprisingly accessible sound, appealing to listeners with a variety of musical tastes. At times subtle and delicate, at others wonderfully aggressive, M13’s music and musicianship has set them apart, establishing a style of their own.
